I was just wondering if anyone has children going to Gold Ridge Elementary School? What do you like? Dislike? Are your kids enjoying it? Anything to watch out for? How are the test scores and the teachers? Any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks for your help.

My kids are transferring there this year from Empire Oaks. I know the test scores between the two schools are about the same. My kids will be in the 4th grade, 1st grade, and kindergarten. I already know who my child's kindergarten teachers will be, but does anyone know any of the first for fourth grade teachers?

So far, I have only heard (thankfully) positive things about Gold Ridge.

My daughter will be in the 3rd grade at Gold Ridge and has been there since Kingergarten. I absolutely love the school and have had nothing but favorable experiences on all levels. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

My daughter had Heidi Saxen for 1st grade... wonderful, wonderful teacher. The only other 1st grade teacher I'm familiar with is Gina Gogliano... again, exceptional teacher. I believe there will be a new 1st grade teacher this year... or it might be a K/1st combo, but not sure of the specifics.

For kindergarten, did you child have two teachers? This will be my first experience with two teachers in one class, as my other children had just one kindergarten teacher. The teachers are both female, but I don't have their names with me at this time.

Yes, that is likely Darlene Kunstel and Teri Guillen. They team teach, though one clearly 'leads' the class. Kunstel for morning session; Guillen in the afternoon. My daughter had them and absolutely flourished. They have a very structured classroom (which my daughter needed) so be prepared for that. I volunteered in class several times and was quite impressed. The classroom was always completely in control, yet fun and nurturing.

Thanks. My daughter will be in the afternoon class. She is very quiet, shy (so unlike my other two!), but very smart, in, of course, her mother's humble opinion. I am hoping she will come out of her shell somewhat this next year. She was always the quietest and shyest in her preschool.

Thanks for your input. I think she'll do great also. I am probably more worried about my other two, after spending one and four years, respectively, at one school, and now transferring to a new school. My son, the first grader, will be fine. My fourth grader (the "Drama Queen") is upset about the whole transition. She thinks she is losing her friends (though we have not moved and her friends have not moved, she she can visit anytime). I try to explain to her, you are not losing friends, you now have the opportunity to gain another whole set of friends. Hopefully she will get it. Like I said, she is all about drama. Oh my gosh, she is almost 9, and life is so hard. I can be a little joking about her here, but I try to realize that for her, these are real concerns for her.

Terri Guillen will be your primary K teacher. She's great. biggrin.gif
"Sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident, teachers' unions have a long history of working against the interests of children in the name of job security for adults. And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.

I know this is an old posting... My son started K a few days ago at Gold Ridge. He's never been to preschool so this all new to him. He's very shy.... Does anybody have any feedback on Mrs Hudor? There's also another teacher helping out but I didn't get her name. I only hear good things about the other teachers and quite disappointed that he's not in that class. Does the school just randomly pick child's class or are they divided into who went to preschool and who didn't? I'm a bit frazzled right now because we are having a bit of difficulty with my son who seems to still be afraid to go.

We didn't have Mrs. Hodur, but I've only heard great things about her. I know she's been with the school a long time and teaching K most of that time.

I'm sure your son is having difficulty b/c this is so new to him not having come from a pre-school environment. Give him some time and I'm sure he'll love it. You might want to ask Mrs. Hodur for some tips on things that might help him not be so afraid.

Mrs. Hodur is wonderful. My daughter had her and it was a great year. Mrs. Samuels just transferred to Gold Ridge and I have heard that she is one of the favorite teachers from her previous school. They are team teaching, so you have two teachers with the kids each day. The first weeks of Kindergarten are really difficult for the kids. Your child is not alone. It will all work out. Kids change so much in their first year of school. E-mail the teachers if you have any concerns, but give your child some time to adjust. It's a very new situation.
