... adding a $500 home safe ...

The safety deposit box I use at Tri Counties in Save Mart is free and available when most normal banking institutes are closed... very convenient to say the least.

According to this TurboTax site, if you did pay rental fees for a safe deposit box you can also deduct them on your taxes.

"Safe deposit box rental fees, if you use the box to store stocks, bonds or other investment-related documents (if you just store jewelry and other personal items there, the fees aren't deductible"

I don't like keeping all my eggs in one basket, so I think both a home safe (not a cheap plastic one that anyone can just carry off) and a safe deposit box are a good idea.

Well, that is understandable.

All the little duckies in one nest could be a bit overwhelming........

Spreading your loot is probably a good idea and I guess I could open another at a different local but I honestly don't worry about it in this day and age unless I knew my box was amongst hardcore collectors and billionaires.

very well stated.

adding a $500 home safe will keep most of your valuables in your possession.

Motion sensor lights are great deterrents as well and work much better to deter crime than just leaving an outside light on 24/7.

Motion detectors + some real looking fake security cameras + some fake security 24 hr monitoring stickers = the "appearance" of don't even think about comin' to this house.

I have seen some of these fake security cameras online and they look and act so real.

I went to http://www.fakecameras.com/sc1000.asp
Anyone want to join me in a "VOLUME DISCOUNT" for the above model?

If you know someone with current security monitoring, they can get window stickers for you. Protection One sent me a stack of them plus a yard sign when I asked. Of course, they thought it was for my house, but I was really giving them to a relative.
