I also live directly in the arrival flight path. They literally pass directly over my house, sometimes low enough that it looks like I could throw a rock and hit them. The couple a day don't bother me, but I can see it becoming intolerable if the frequency increases significantly. In general, I don't mind it and still look up in amazement when one flies by.
I did know that there was an airport when I moved here in 1996, but I never would have expected it to become a heavy-use cargo hub once the base was closed. Especially since so many of the runways of the closed bases were getting removed and the land re-purposed for other things.
I think the real issue that most people don't realize is that the flight paths in the past were much more Folsom/EDH friendly before it turned into a cargo airport. The military flights would arrive along HW 50 or a little south, stay pretty high, then turn toward the runway once they lined up and drop down. Military approaches are typically not the slow & low style we now get with cargo planes. Most of the arrivals I barely even notice. Some come in waaaay too low and can be disruptive even if the windows are closed.
So, I'm not a NIMBY that wants the airport shut down, but I do feel that the flight paths have encroached into our airspace more than it should or needs to. I think limiting frequency to something tolerable and pushing the flight paths back south and/or having steeper approaches are the main points that should be negotiated.
