I am directly in Mather flight path and the biggest issue for me is the early morning ~4:30 flights that come in. I had heard somewhere that 5AM is the earliest flights are suppose to be coming in but they are obviously violating that policy. Anything before 6AM is a problem in my opinion.

I am trying to get a perspective of locations where this is a current issue. What section of Folsom do you live in ?

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Since you read that in the original link you posted as the OP- I would have thought that you had read the entire section - There is little change predicted from current to future inside school noise levels at the two sites reviewed. http://www.dera.sacc...20725132801.pdf

I wonder what areas of Folsom are current 'plagued' by excessive air traffic noise from planes in or out of Mather. I would presume that SO50 development might have a higher noise factor in the future but that would be a new construction area and surely the builders will be responsible people and add noise abatement enhancements to the properties.

I am in Natoma Station and have NO ISSUES with overhead aircraft noise...

With that little change predicted, keep in mind that the study was done not in any school of Folsom, and done back in 2009. Besides, with the magnitude of this expansion, it would be absurd of me to think there would be minimal change to noise levels.

I hear and see them directly overhead everyday at Gold Ridge Elementary, Folsom.... I wonder how the staff there feel about it.

With Class sizes the way they are, I doubt the teachers even hear the planes overhead!

A class full of disorderly kids, perhaps.

I play golf at Mather alot and have been known to verbally abuse my putter in an "adult" manner. I'll try to keep it down.

I live on the hill near Handy park across from Palladio. Had another one come in this morning about 4:15AM.

Obviously the people who think its no big deal have not been anywhere near the sound. The people who do have to deal with it are screwed.

Handy park is great for kites! I'm close to Gold Ridge Elementary school. Did you see the 2007 flight paths at http://keepthepeace.org/, it's crazy. Can you imagine, if it's true, as many as 40 flights per hour, mind boggling!!!

It's real troubling to see all this talk about whether or not it's a personal nuisance, shouldn't we be approaching this as a community, a residential community, one kept as serene and desirable as possible. I, for one, am anxious to see what the city has to say.

I also live directly in the arrival flight path. They literally pass directly over my house, sometimes low enough that it looks like I could throw a rock and hit them. The couple a day don't bother me, but I can see it becoming intolerable if the frequency increases significantly. In general, I don't mind it and still look up in amazement when one flies by.

I did know that there was an airport when I moved here in 1996, but I never would have expected it to become a heavy-use cargo hub once the base was closed. Especially since so many of the runways of the closed bases were getting removed and the land re-purposed for other things.

I think the real issue that most people don't realize is that the flight paths in the past were much more Folsom/EDH friendly before it turned into a cargo airport. The military flights would arrive along HW 50 or a little south, stay pretty high, then turn toward the runway once they lined up and drop down. Military approaches are typically not the slow & low style we now get with cargo planes. Most of the arrivals I barely even notice. Some come in waaaay too low and can be disruptive even if the windows are closed.

So, I'm not a NIMBY that wants the airport shut down, but I do feel that the flight paths have encroached into our airspace more than it should or needs to. I think limiting frequency to something tolerable and pushing the flight paths back south and/or having steeper approaches are the main points that should be negotiated.

hey, where were you guys yesterday when they were beating me up for saying the same thing! :)

Like the rest of you, its the expansion and how that will effect us that concerns me, not the current operations.

Good discussion so far. I'm defineately writing both the expansion study committee and Sac County Supervisor, Roberta MacGlashan with my concern. Her email address is macglashanr@saccounty.net.

I have no problem with expanded use of Mather. The jobs it could create are a positive.

My concern is the noise from planes landing at 4:30AM - 5:30AM. They are already loud and although I've written several times, the frequency seems to be the same. If the expansion means more sleepless mornings than the expansions moves us backwards, not fowards.

It makes me wonder about those just about to clock-out at that time.

I live in Chelsa Ridge & planes fly directly over my house. I usually see them in the evening. I'm not up for the early morning flights. I rarely notice the noise & it doesn't wake me up. It does seem like they are really low. I believe the flight path is over the top of the ridge by Vista Del Lago HS &/ or Carpenter Hill. It always makes me think of plane wrecks in neighborhoods. If something happened, they'd take out all the houses on the hillside. For me, that's more concerning than the noise potential.
