I am not opposed to Starbuck's like you all, but I agree that it would be nice to avoid the chains and keep it more unique. Black Rooster is fine for me.
Hopefully when the steak house on the other end opens, it will be better. I would love for that to be a better destination, because it's wonderful to walk and look at the lake, and ejoy the bridges and bike path.

It isn't one shop that does it, but the collection of them.
What has kept tourists away, IMO:
* Crappy 'curb appeal' - it just doesn't look well maintained
* Accessability - traffic circulation and parking can be a problem
* An unfriendly atmosphere in some of the shops - you just don't get 'warm and fuzzies' from most merchants. Notable exceptions are the Wine Gallery, Ms. Teaz, and Snook's.
* Lack of a theme and marketing message - what's it about?
I can't imagine someone saying, "Let's head to Old Folsom today. I hear they've got a Starbucks!"
I CAN imagine someone saying, "Let's head to Old Folsom today. I'm sick of all of the chains at the malls, I want something unique"
All of these issues have been reviewed by consultants and community groups and you will be happy to know that more meetings are scheduled. The process benefits from participation by anyone with interest and a vision.
Quote from the Revitalization website: http://www.historicf...revitalization/
"Our phase 2 recommendations are nearly completed. We’re expecting to bring these back to our stakeholders in early 2007. The Phase 2 deliverables are conceptual design recommendations only. If these recommendations are approved by the City Council, the next phase, Detailed Design would begin. In the meantime, we’re meeting regularly with as many stakeholder groups as we can to keep everyone informed. If you would like to know more, feel free to contact Jeff Ferreira-Pro (contact info below)."
Items to be reviewed at future Stakeholder meeting(s) with status updates and community input on:
Parking management plan
Streetscape improvements
Tenant mix improvements
Circulation improvements
Safety and Security improvements

Jeff also has some great visuals about what has been conceptualized so far for the Historict District--which includes Sutter Street and beyond. In years to come, this section of our city could become a world-class attraction--bringing visitors from more than 150 miles! We already have a surprising number of folks from Europe and Asia visiting the Living History Village, Railroad Museum and History Museum. School tours have also made a difference in the number and range of visitors.
In a very short time you will see some significant upgrades--parking, tenant mix, marketing and streetscape improvements.
The consultants have already delivered some excellent input. Revitalization and the resulting customer base to Historic Folsom will ultimately be determined by city leaders with feedback from consultants and the community. Your voice can make a difference!

What's in old town Sac that you like a lot? Thats something to definately consider - what is that area doing right that Folsom should consider implementing in our old town?
I think old town Sac is a great place with lots to do (especially the 2 very nice museums there) and Sutter Street can't compare because its so much smaller by comparison.
Steak House?! where? that sounds great!

On the east end of Sutter St. The Corner of Bridge & Sutter will be a very large building (3 stories on the river side) with (hopefully) a fine dining steakhouse, offices, and 17(?) parking spaces underneath.

What does the new theatre place down there do? I've yet to be in it.
I'd love to see vaudeville make a return to Sutter. That would be great fun!

I had never seen or heard of it until I was down there last week. It's called Stage Nine.
The threatre, although small, sounds like what everyone here wants. They had matinee and evening shows on the weekend.
