Hey there Prairie Oaks folks (hey, that rhymes!),
We are planning on buying a home soon in the Prairie Oaks area, so I was trying to do some research into the affordable housing in the area. Where we're moving from we've had a terrible experience living near an apartment complex that has a high density of affordable housing (there's been a huge jump in neigbhorhood crime since its opening).
In an effort to ensure we don't have the same problem again, I've been trying to figure out whether there are similar problem spots in Folsom that we should avoid. Someone at the city told me that the city has an "inclusionary" policy, meaning they avoid making certain complexes very high-density for low income housing. But at the same time he mentioned that a new apt. complex going up in Empire Ranch back behind Costco has 40 units dedicated to low- and very-low income. Any idea if the two complexes on Iron Point across from the High School have similar designations?
Also, on this site I saw a couple threads from probably 4 years ago or so discussing dissatisfaction with a "rezoning" in the Prarie Oaks/Willow Springs area. Was this area rezoned to make it have a high density of affordable housing?
I'm not necessarily against the idea of providing affordable housing, I just have seen problems that arise from doing it in high density.
I really appreciate anyone sharing their knowledge about the status of affordable housing in this neighborhood.
Thanks for your input! I value this resource so much!

Those are corporate apartments I thought...The other apartments, are just regular....The ones that are built by the mall will be low income apartments I think....Not sure...

The Apartments across from Safeway are not, but I believe all the new stuff being built right now are affordable housing. There's been a lot of grading going on back there going on now.
The City Council specifically said they would not "cluster" the "low income" housing, but most of it is along Iron Point. Regardless, it's still in Folsom. "Affordable" probably means $350,000 - I'm sure they will all blend in nicely.
