Hey folks! It's that event that only comes twice a year. You wait up for it like a kid on Christmas Eve and you kick yourself when you forget it. Your wife has been urging you to get rid of the "bachelor couch" or that rusty Huffy bike she bought in the 80's and has finally decided she probably won't ever get around to riding. Either way, it won't fit in the trash can so it's time to put it on the curb and watch it magically disappear! It's the bi-annual Neighborhood Cleanup and it's coming to our area real soon!

You've already paid for it as part of your monthly sewer, water, trash service so you might as well take advantage of it! An informational flyer can be found here:

http://www.folsom.ca.....om Mailer.pdf

If you live southwest side of East Bidwell and are still in the Central District, you are in Zone 2 and our pickup day is May 22nd (2004). If you miss it, they will come back, but not until Nov 27th -- so please don't leave your couch on the curb from May 23rd until November (that's just plain uncool and illegal). blink.gif

If you live northeast of East Bidwell, you are lucky Zone 3. You get to wait until June 26th or Dec 18th.

Appointments are no longer necessary!

For more info, call the city at 355-8398

Also, don't forget that the city will pick you hazard wastes up at your door twice a week with the hazardous waste program:

http://207.105.169.11/

This includes paint, oil, antifreeze, vehicle or rechargeable batteries, aerosol cans, tv sets or monitors, pesticides, pool cleaners, old gasoline, etc... They'll even remove asbestos -- but getting it to your curb is your responsibility. Don't put these items in the trash or dump them in your backyard (aka as Aerojetting) since they need to be disposed of properly; and since Folsom makes this service so easy to use, please take advantage of it. Folsom's native sea lion population will thank you.

To make an appointment for a hazmat pickup, call Folsom's hotline at 355-8397 or their office at 355-8350 or 355-8361, or email rmiller@folsom.ca.us

Yes, thanks! I will be using the HHW program this week, thanks to your link!

About the old couch on the curbside...there's this house down on Sibley that constantly has trash in the front yard, but instead of putting that trash out on the street, they found OTHER trash and put it out. I guess they're attached to the trash they already had in their yard!

Unfortunately they did change it because they were overwhelmed in 2004 with the no appointment rule. Now they are back to appointments and only once a year. Let me dig up the info from the city website.

http://www.folsom.ca...ex.asp?page=376

We are Zone 4:
February 25, 2006 and February 24, 2007

From the page above:

NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP PROGRAM

City crews will pick up bulky items that do not fit into your trash cart. You must schedule an appointment for a pick up in your zone.

Click here to find your Neighborhood Cleanup zone.

WHAT:
Yard waste, lumber/wood, furniture, mattresses, metals/appliances, lawn mowers (remove gas and oil), BBQs (no propane tanks) and tires (up to 3).

To aid with recycling please separate materials by type. Please secure or remove all doors on large appliances before placing them on the curb. Leaves and grass must be bagged. Do not leave items longer than six feet (e.g. disassembled fences, lumber, PVC pipe).

Unacceptable materials that we cannot pick-up: household hazardous waste, auto parts or fluids, liquids, computer monitors or TVs, concrete, bricks, or rocks, dirt or sod, tree stumps, cement-filled tires, combustibles/flammables, commercial or household garbage, heavy metal items (e.g. engine blocks), and steel pipe.

The City of Folsom provides a SEPARATE program for FREE collection of latex paint, used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, auto and rechargeable batteries, TVs, computer monitors, small propane tanks, cleaners, pesticides, aerosols, solvents, pool chemicals and other household waste. Call 355-8397 to schedule a pick-up. For more information, visit the Hazardous Waste Division web page.

WHEN:
A new Neighborhood Cleanup Program brochure, reflecting the schedule for when a pick-up is available in your area, was mailed out to residents in July 2005. Be sure to save the brochure for future reference. If you did not receive the brochure, please call 355-8398 to request one in the mail.

HOW:
You must make an appointment to have your items picked up in your zone. Appointments must be scheduled no later than the Wednesday prior to your zone's pickup date. Please call the Solid Waste Division at 355-8398 to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions.

WHERE:
Place material at the edge of the street, NOT on the sidewalk. DO NOT block vehicular or pedestrian traffic and DO NOT place materials in alleyways.
