Joanne Reinking is running. She is a parent coordinator at one of the schools and also has been a PTO president at two sites. She is very involved in the schools. Good listener very fair minded. I would highly recommend her.

Agreed. JoAnne would be awesome, and I was *very* pleased when she told me she was running.
My kids have gone to school with two of her boys, and her husband was my son's baseball coach for a few years, so I've known her a long time and know how involved and active and dedicated she is.

I heard there are 8 candidates in the race for two positions

Kumar Kalagara is one of the candidate. I do not know about others. In near future we will find out.

What do we really look for in a board candidate? Is it some one we know or heard about?
It is so difficult to get info about candidate. How do we know what they stand for? How do we know some one will do a good job.
Any thoughts.

I know we don't want someone like Theresa Stanley who sits up there and ignores the people when they address her.
When they talked about reducing class size reduction all she kept saying is - my daughter did fine with 32 in her class in third grade. Isn't she suppose to represent all of the students? Not every student will do fine with 32 in the class. Just because her daughter did okay doesn't mean they all will.
She is completely rude and stuffs her face or will text message people while they are addressing the board.

Maybe EDF will run again. I was one of 67 people who voted for him back then. At least we know where he stands...................

Here are the official cadidates from the Sac County web site (http://www.elections.saccounty.net/coswcms/groups/public/@wcm/@pub/@vre/@inter/documents/webcontent/sac_016035.pdf):
JOANNE REINKING
CONRADE C. MAYER
MARILYN MAGGIO
TERESA A. STANLEY
GARY T JOHNSON
DYARL E. ABDO
DANIEL CHENG
KUMAR KALAGARA
JoAnne Reinking knows the difficulties our shools are facing because she actually spends time in them and sees first hand the brutality of the cuts the district has levied, unlike the other incumbent candidate. Mrs. Reinking would be a welcome change to our school board and would be a strong advocate for parents AND teachers.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
JoAnne would be an outstanding addition to the school board.

I recall the board supported this once, but before it went to the state hearing the board members changed and longer supported splitting the district in 2. I think the recent cutbacks (3rd grade ratio, libraries) may have been done differently in a split scenario. And since Rancho now has it's own city government, the maybe interested in having a stand-alone school district? As well, both now and when Folsom grows west of 50, it should have it own...

Huh! I observed the same in the recent Board Meeting in Folsom High.

I believe that in a different thread, another poster suggested that splitting the districts would be good for fundraising.
Apparently Davis has a non-profit "Davis School District Foundation" that raised $1.8 million this year. They are singlehandedly paying the salaries for 25 teachers --- so I guess Davis didn't lose their CSR! We might be able to do the same thing for Folsom schools -- Folsom parents and businesses would be more inclined to donate if they knew the money was staying right here in Folsom.
