Folsom Receives Full Water Allocation, Lifts Landscape Restrictions
Folsom residents are no longer restricted to three-day-per week landscape watering, although City officials urge continued conservation. City Manager Kerry Miller lifted the Stage 2 Water Alert this week following the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s announcement that Folsom and other water providers that receive water from Folsom Lake will have full water allocations this year.
“We encourage our water customers to continue using water wisely as California still faces a water shortage despite the wet winter and increased snowpack,” said Miller. “Our residents did an excellent job of reducing water use in recent years and we hope that trend continues as temperatures climb this summer.”
Folsom’s water conservation specialists remind residential water customers that landscape irrigation accounts for 70 percent of summer water usage. They offer the following reminders to reduce water use:
- Avoid run-off or gutter flooding
- Repair leaks promptly
- Use a shut-off nozzle on hoses
- Use irrigation systems during the coolest hours of the day (10 p.m. to 10 a.m.)
- Empty and refill pools or water features only as necessary
- Use native/drought-tolerant plants in landscapes
