Word on the street is that Guy Fieri of Food Network's Diners, Drive Ins and Dives is filming at Gatsby's today. So if you wanted to check them out, you may want to do that before they get swamped with people from the publicity (like Jaimie's and Squeeze Inn were, apparently). Gatsby's is a family owned and operated gourmet burger place, they cook the burgers to order on a teppanyaki style grill in the middle of their seating area. I've only been there a couple of times, but I've really really enjoyed it.

I was watching diners, driveins and dives last night and realized Folsom, sadly, has nothing local or unique that could make that show. MAYBE Sutter Street Grill but that's it.

I watch his show often and you can tell when Guy is really into a place and when he just think's it's so-so. Last week he was at a place in Manhatten Beach called North End Cafe that he liked a lot because the chef made everything from scratch including the pasta and the food looked great and you could tell Guy thought it was off the hook great - in fact he liked it so much he called Mario Batali (a great famous Italian chef) on his cell right then and there to tell him about it - that was cool (and a nice thing to do) and the chef at the place was very excited that Mario might be coming to his restaurant too - he was almost as excited as Guy was about trying out his food there.

I have a friend who knows Guy and about a year ago out of the blue he called me to ask where Guy should stop in Folsom for a bite to eat on his way home from Tahoe that day. - I couldn't believe it.... I really wanted him to check out Folsom.... I suggested beers at Manderes or appetizers at Bidwell Street Bistro - but alas it turned out they did not want to venture that far from hwy 50 (he was on his way home to Nor Cal) and so they ended up going to Bistro 33 in EDH. I was told later he wasn't impressed d'oh.

Now Chad got me thinking.... what place in Folsom could Guy bring his show to? He likes small home grown places that have something unique to offer... Sutter Street Grill probably would be a good candidate.... but there's got to be more that Folsom has to offer....

What places would you guys and gals suggest that is a very good restaurant with unique / original dishes to offer?

That's a good idea and thinking back I have only seen him do one pizza place in the past and that was in Chicago (he may have done more but I must've missed that episode).

Another one might be Samuel Horne's Tavern on Sutter St, they do some killer burgers that I bet Guy would enjoy.

He would like the Dobbie, I bet. It is a french dip sandwich without any au jus, but they include two slices of thick cut bacon, two over easy fried eggs, and a Serrano Chili Aioli. It is VERY tasaty.

It's not on their online menu, I'll have to ask next time...

Last time I was there I had their Cootie burger (comes with a fried egg amongst other things..) with a side of their very good chili cheese fries.... oh man, that was some serious goodness, topped off with a great beer - perfection.
