Stop Light at Intersection of McAdoo and Riley

My son and I were almost hit by a car (driver on his cell phone) on that intersection last week. The guy looked back after he came to a screeching halt about 10 feet from my car as if he didn't notice the stop sign was there.
I've noticed other stop signs are usually up close to the actual stop "line" on the road; however, this one is a little further in front and surrounded by 2 grown trees.
I'm wondering if this is a problem where drivers do not see the stop sign and just go through the stop.
I'm also concerned because we weren't the only ones that I've notice that almost got hit. I witnessed a 7 or 8 year old boy on a bike crossing that intersection that was almost hit by a car who did not stop at the stop sign heading west on Riley.
I would love to hear from other neighbors and maybe we could get the city to fix this problem before someone gets hit.

Call Mark Racovan at 355-7272.
Think that is the correct number, and let him know to get it checked out.

The stop at McAdoo seems to be just fine. STOP AHEAD is marked on the road from both directions and the stop signs are clearly visible.
If someone runs that stop sign they should be given a ticket!!
It is clearly marked in both directions.
Anyway, I forwarded all this information to Mark Rackovan and he sent me the
following.

Mr. May:
Thank you for your message regarding the
intersection of Riley at McAdoo. We will
investigate the placement and visibility of the
existing stop signs as soon as possible and make
adjustments if necessary. You may also be
interested to know that we are in the process of
designing traffic signals for the intersections of
McAdoo, Cruickshank, and Russi at Riley Street. It
is our goal to have these signals under construction
next year to replace the existing stop signs. If
you have any more questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,

I'm really glad to know that they are going to put a signal there. It will be a little inconvenient but it is better than a serious accident with families or children involved.
There are just soo many kids on bikes by themselves that it is better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks for taking the time to do this!! I appreciate it.

McAdoo, Cruickshank, and Russi at Riley Street. They
all intersect Riley.
As far as timing, I would hope that they will set the lights so
you can drive through them all without stopping. One way
in the morning and the other way in the evening.
NOTE: I will be down for awhile as I just got my new computer and
have to set it up. Will be back when I can.

It's a fact that people drive way to fast down that hill and there are many children that cross those intersections after school. I'd rather see them safe than me be able to save a minute or two from my drive to the business area.
It may stop the speeding and reckless drivers.
As for the guy that ran the McAdoo and Riley 4 way stop, I tried to get his license but he was driving too fast and I had my teenage son in the car. (I didn't want to be a bad example. Plus, I'm sure he will get caught one of these days.)

Some city council members real these notes. I am not sure if Mark does or not.
Everyone needs to get involved and e-mail and/or call people that work for
the city of Folsom if a problem comes up.
I like to get involved when something comes up that I believe in or if something
needs to be fixed.

I DEFINITELY think they need a stop light at McAdoo and Riley. It's close to a park, kids cross this 3 way stop all the time after school and drivers are just blowing right through those stop signs.
I agree that they need cross walks on McAdoo. I always stop completely when I see anyone adult or child waiting to cross the street. That is also a very dangerous street. People do not go the 35 mph speed limit. I've actually had people illegally pass me on a solid line because I was going to slow (35mph) and they needed to save 3 seconds from their time.

Maybe they should also consider lowering the speed limit on McAdoo. There are a lot of pedestrians and children crossing those streets.
As for seeing Folsom PD around that area, I haven't seen any. I telephoned Folsom PD about my incident and the detective I spoke with said he would pass on my information to "Patrol". I don't know if anything will come from that. Sometime ago, I saw Folsom PD hiding in the Livermore Parking area but I don't know if they were just taking a lunch or actually "patrolling".

love your "avatar". I was wondering if you knew that I actually took that picture of the two Canada Geese right here in Willow Springs at Willow Springs Lake (the pond on the end of my street)? I uploaded it to myfolsom.com and used it as my avatar when I first became a member! Anyway, it's nice to see it in use again and seems very appropriate since you are also a resident of Willow Springs!
Back on topic, I think one stop sign and one stop light would be a much better alternative.
