Last I knew, it was going to be a senior center. That was a while ago.
I think you're confused with the old fire station on Natoma Street, next to city hall. The city is working to convert that one to a seniors center. The station at Blue Ravine/Prairie City allegedly has mold issues and will be razed.

I think they have conveniently forgotten what to do with it, along with the unfinished parks and the unlandscaped medians throughout town.
The City's park Staff would love to finish all the parks in town. Unfortunately the funding to do this isn't a priority by the decision makers.
It is ironic we can spend over $100,000 after restructuring the former city managers job to force him to leave ( when he is leaving anyway) and then give praise to the person who caused this action....yet can not find the funds to complete our neighborhood parks.
Priorities are easy to see....don't get caught up in the words people say....look at their actions!

Subject: Fire Station at Blue Ravine & Prairie City Road
The people in the Prairie Oaks area have a question
about the Fire Station at Blue Ravine & Prairie City Road.
Quote:
Now that the old firehouse is no longer occupied, has
anybody heard what they are going to do with it? It
would probably make a pretty cool clubhouse type of
place for meetings, stuff like that. I for one have
noticed it has been overrun by weeds - which is
unfortunate, as whoever occupies this building next
will likely have to rip out the old grass and start over.
Unquote:
I think it was closed because of a mold problem or was
it some other reason.
Whatever it was I would like to know so I can put it
on our board. Also at a minimum it seems like the city
could at least keep the lawn trim and looking good.
I need an answer.
Thanks.

Hi Cal,
I will see if I can find out why nobody has called you back. Yes, there was a mold issue with the building - not the hazardous kind. So, the City
will not be using it for anything and it would more than likely be sold.
I will check to ensure that the grounds are being kept up in the
meantime.

Hi Calvin:
Your message about the subject abandoned fire station was forwarded to me for a rely. Thank you for your interest.
FYI, the Fire Chief and I have met with an appraiser regarding updating an appraisal done on the property back in 1999. Before that process starts though, Eric and I will be meeting with planning staff regarding permitted uses of the existing building per the City zoning code. The appraiser will probably complete the appraisal in the next 3-4 months. After that process is completed, I plan to meet with the neighborhoods adjacent to the Fire Station for feedback on alternative uses for the property.
I will contact Administrative Services regarding lawn care of the property.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks.

I have heard that the mold is pretty toxic so they will need some type of environmental cleanup tent set up over the building just to tear it down. Kind of like the tent they built over the house in the old movie ET.
Wasn't this one of the stations that they had developers build as a freebie for unlimited housing development?

You know what I would like to see on that corner?
A large statue of some major person, maybe Mr Folsom.
A large electronic sign with things that are happening in Folsom.
I don't think that bit of land is big enough for any gas station or car wash. A person would
have to come in on Prairie City Road and back out on Blue Ravine. Not a good place for any kind of business. The fire station was OK because they could turn on their lights and get out in case of emergency.
We will wait and see...
