Does anyone have any technical knowledge or insight about why our internet connection keeps dropping?

Our troubles seem to have begun over the summer. We've called Comcast Tech Support five times, and they always follow the same script which leads them to reset our internet connection. Sometimes that helps for a day. We had a Comcast person come to our home, and he confirmed that our connection keeps dropping. He couldn't determine why. He gave us a new modem. Our internet speed was faster, but we continue to have the dropping problem.

We're in the Empire Ranch / Parkway area. Anyone else having trouble? Anyone know what could be happening? Anyone know if changing to AT&T U-Verse would help?

(Today 12/15/2014 is really bad. I feel like some Comcast person somewhere flips switches, or does something, every once in a while. Grrrrr . . . )

We have Comcast and have the exact same problem, starting in the summer just like you did.  We also live in ER.  It just goes out intermittently and then we can connect back in. We have also gotten a new modem already, but it still goes out. Our tech guy who set up our system was going to try to get us a  new router but I wonder if that would fix the problem (?)  I will be watching this thread to see if anyone has any suggestions, because like you, we are frustrated.

I have had problems in the past and still do at times. I get frustrated but I learn to live with it.  COMCAST with the X1 box is great.

I love it.  If you remember back when the internet first started and how slow everything was:  I can live with it.

When I have a problem, I call Comcast and let them know.  I have gotten FREE HBO and other channels just for the

asking due to problems I have had.  Just ask.  Sometimes they give me free channels for 3-6 months at a time.

Switching to AT&T won't help. It will be worse than Comcast.

My connection has been pretty solid for literally many years. Lately seeing a few drop offs. Maybe all the wet weather is messing with some of the connections.

I've had U-Verse for almost the last 2 years, and the service has been pretty reliable.  One thing you may want to check is that your coax cable connections are screwed in properly.  There are several points to check:  The Coax to the modem, the coax to the wall, behind the wall plate, at your splitters, etc.  Many years ago, I had trouble accessing the Comcast On-Demand content.  It was intermittent-worked ok in the morning, but not at night.  Tech support couldn't fix it over the phone and they finally sent over a technician.  To my embarrassment, the coax at the back of my set top box was not screwed in tightly, so it did not have a good ground connection.  Never had the problem again.

It's funny because the 3-4 times Comcast has come to my house the techs immediately shear off the ends of every cable and put new connectors on even though they are fine.

I'm new to Comcast, but when I asked about this when I noticed latency, I was told that there are many times the connection is down, momentarily. And then it comes right back up. So they say. Also, I was told they've been laying the new line (can't remember what it's called) & there is a disconnect when they reconnect. You've probably noticed the Comcast trucks at the neighborhood electrical boxes. I also have a direct line to a local rep, so I call him when I have any problems.
